Only today the flies were really bad so human in her wisdom decided I could have my saddle on while still wearing my nightie. It felt really odd and I am so glad we didn't go out in public like this. Just did a while in the school. Human had a beating stick with her today. I really don't know why she bothers as I know and she knows I know that she never uses it. I think it makes her feel like a proper rider. It does have it's uses though for flicking horrid flies off that human or I can't reach.
When we had done I stayed in the school for a wee munch while human went and had a drink. Then Nugs human turned up. They sat about chatting and drinking, you would not believe how much these humans can drink.
Then the heavens opened. I don't think I have ever seen so much rain come down in such a short time. Human came and got me and I went in my room whilst the humans went out to lunch. I had lunch in my room.
When human returned it was out to the field.
Only then it got very strange. Human turned up again later and I had to come in with her again. Evil human then only goes and gives me that horrid yukky worming stuff. Then as if that wasn't bad enough I have to spend the next 3 days IN MY ROOM! Whatever have I done to deserve this treatment you might ask.
Well it seems I have some nasty wormy things in my tummy. I didn't have any when I came to this place but I have been getting more and more ever since. So Mr Sexy Oirish Voice Vet himself said to give me yukky wormer and keep me in for 3 days to stop the eggs being passed back out onto the field. Hmmm. I personally think human would believe Mr Sexy Oirish Voice Vet if said pigs can grow wings and fly. But hey ho. It's dry in here. I have a lovely deep warm snuggly bed. Peace and quiet and lots of hay. My field was rather waterlogged and it's still raining so perhaps it's not so bad in here after all.
oh zoe you just reminded me--- i used to work at a stable where when they wormed a horse, they'd keep it in the stall for a couple days. how odd!
ReplyDeletealso i wanted to ask you about your bug sheet - does it work against horseflies? mosquitos? gnats? it seems so thin. I was bit 5 times this week through my clothes by a horsefly. i have just rubbed ointment on my ankle tonight from some other awful bug that hurt me. i cannot stand summer in Germany!!! my vet had to come yesterday because Baasha is allergic and his eyes are infected. he's got all sorts of rubs on his body. the vet gave me a shampoo for mites. i have no confidence at all that you can fights mites with a shampoo! ugh. please tell me what your experiences are with these various insects and how i can learn to fight them. i'm new here!
Knowing how those horrid big things can bite human through her jods there is no way a fly rug would stop them biting me. I have sweetitch so it's the culicoides midges that cause me problems. This rug and the other sweetitch rugs I have are able to stop those little buggers. Normal fly rugs have mesh not small enough to stop the culicoides.
DeleteI do have to say though that I rarely get any fly bites so maybe they are better than I think.
I get to ride around home in my nightie too! The neighbor horses are kinda "WHATS THAT" as I ride over hee hee. Three days in bed, oooooooo I'd go crazy!
